On the duality between prior beliefs and trading demands

چکیده

In an abstract model with asymmetric information, we show that there is a duality relationship between the prior beliefs and trading demands of bets for any given individual. Then we aggregate all the agents to obtain a second duality relationship between common prior beliefs and trading possibilities. We easily derive from these relationships the no trade theorem and its converse. General efficiency results can be obtained. Moreover, our framework is sufficiently general to cover special cases proved previously (for example, Econometrica 62 (1994) 1327; Discussion Paper 83, Center for Rationality and Interactive Decision Theory, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 1995; J. Econom. Theory 91 (2000) 127; Games Econom. Behav. 24 (1998) 172. Yet, our arguments are both simple and intuitive. r 2003 Published by Elsevier Science (USA). JEL classification: C70; D82; D84

Impact of Epistemological Beliefs on Hypertext Learning: A Pilot-Study

This explorative pilot-study investigated the relationship between epistemological beliefs, prior knowledge and selfregulated learning with a hierarchical hypertext. Students who varied in their epistemological beliefs and prior knowledge learned about the topic of genetic fingerprinting. Logfiles and questionnaire data were collected. Risk Attitude, Beliefs Updating, and the Information Content of Trades: An Experiment

We conduct a series of experiments that simulate trading in financial markets and which allows us to identify the different effects that subjects’ risk attitudes and belief updating rules have on the information content of the order flow. We find that there are very few risk-neutral subjects and that subjects displaying risk aversion or risk-loving tend to ignore private information when their ...

Heterogeneous Prior Beliefs and Asset Pricing with Expected Gain from Active Trading

Asset pricing formulas generated from representative agent models help in computing the fundamental values of assets that investors plan to hold forever. In contrast, in an economy with heterogeneous agents and active trading, stock prices will persistently deviate from the expected fundamental value even without introducing any explosive bubbles. Particularly, the introduction of heterogeneous...

The dynamics of efficient asset trading with heterogeneous beliefs

This paper analyzes the dynamic properties of portfolios that sustain Pareto optimal allocations. We consider an in…nite horizon stochastic endowment economy where the actual process of the states of nature consists in i.i.d draws from a common probability distribution. The economy is populated by many Bayesian agents with heterogeneous prior beliefs over the stochastic process of the states of...
